Hurricane Preparedness

Hurricanes can be big and scary, but you can stay safe by being prepared! Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Have a Plan: Create a plan with your family, or trusted adult, and decide together where to go if you need to leave your home. It might be a relative’s house, a shelter, or another safe place.

  2. Evac Pack: Pack a back pack to take with you if you need to leave your home, (evacuate). You can pack things like water, snacks, a flashlight,  or your favorite book. A notebook and colored pencils can help you draw or write about your experiences. Click here to view a list of recommendations on the Emergency Preparedness page.

  3. Stay Informed: Be sure to listen to local officials and follow instructions from trusted adults. It’s important to know what’s happening and what you should do to stay safe.  If you have to leave home, (evacuate), before the the hurricane, your local officials will inform everyone.  They will also let you know when it is safe to return home.

  4. Stay Calm: Remember, it’s okay to feel scared. However being prepared, listening to adults, and following your plan, can help you stay safe and calm.
